This Kerala School Took Education a Step Ahead Through Augmented Reality

“It is not enough to think outside the box. Thinking is passive. Get used to acting outside the box” - Tim Ferriss

At present, we all have been forced to think and act ‘out of the box.’ Classrooms across the world have opted for various approaches to make online learning effective and interesting. Similarly, Kerala came up with a new fascinating approach to reach its students. In the Moorkkanad AEMAUP School in Kerala, teachers experimented with augmented reality to teach their students. They used pictorial depictions of animals like cows and elephants using this particular technology.

Kerala has been a step ahead always in the area of education with a literacy rate of 93.91%, as per the National Census Data 2011. Through this stimulating approach, the school wanted to provide theoretical knowledge complemented with a practical environment where the children can understand and learn the concepts with high motivation. Through this technology, the viewer can see the image on their screens as if they are real, which gives them a composite view.

It is a quite engrossing fact about education in Kerala, of the importance it has given to treating animals with kindness. It has been a part of their curriculum for a couple of years now, where they are made aware and sensitised over the existence of wildlife. This instance in Kerala has been an inspiration for many educators and has given a platform for sharing different techniques that are being opted across the world.
