You’ve read stories of teachers travelling to far off places to conduct classes for students who have got no access to internet or gadgets for online education. Now, here's a teacher cycling to several villages across rural Hyderabad to promote safety against the deadly Coronavirus, becoming yet another example of selflessness the teaching community is made of.
Meet 46-year-old Gollamandla Suresh Kumar from Telangana's Khammam district. Since the lockdown was announced pan India, he has been cycling to remote villages in his district to educate people on how to take necessary care during the pandemic.
"Maintain cleanliness, keep your surroundings clean, always wear a face mask when going out and keep physical distance," Kumar announces on a megaphone so everyone gets the message loud and clear.
Wearing a helmet and a facemask, he distributes handwritten posters among the fellow villagers. In fact, he’s fixed some banners on his bicycle as well, written in Telugu, about the COVID-19 precautions. It’s been seven months now that this teacher from a government school (Zilla Parishad High School in Peuvoncha village under Kallur Mandal) is dedicated to the cause.
His routine involves leaving home in the dawn and touring at least 2-3 villages. So far, he has covered about 250 villages.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Kumar has made efforts for a social cause. In the past, he’s hit the roads on his bicycle to create awareness about pollution, HIV, smoking, etc.
