Sonam Wangchuk to receive the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture 2017

Sonam Wangchuk, founder of SECMOL & Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh is one of the five recipients of Global Award for Sustainable Architecture 2017. The award recognizes the work Sonam and his team at SECMOL have done over the last few decades on passive solar heated Earth buildings and the Ice Stupas. The unseen challenges facing contemporary societies are being addressed by individuals like Sonam as they search for the right balance between man and the environment.

The prize will be given in a ceremony to be held on 15th May 2017 at the Cité de l'architecture & du patrimoine, Paris.

About the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture 

The understanding of design as a collectively creative process, yet a scientific and technical expertise has been rewarded since 2007 by the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture, an honour created by the architect and professor Jana Revedin in partnership with international scientific institutions and the Cité de l ╠üArchitecture of Paris as a cultural partner. The award received the patronage of UNESCO in 2011.

The Global Award for Sustainable Architecture is run by the LOCUS Fund and supported by the GDF-Suez Foundation, BOUYGUES Batiment International and the Rexel Foundation.
