Read Why Everyone is Calling This Chhattisgarh Teacher ‘Cinema Wale Babu’

Every day, Ashok Lodhi ties a TV to his bike and plays music and cartoon programmes to teach young students. He's been doing this since the lockdown was implemented in India. The senior teacher believes that using entertainment is a great way to attract the attention of the villagers, bored students, and even the administration. It’s interesting to know that this idea has earned him the tag of ‘Cinema Wale Babu,’ a name assigned by the local people.

Lodhi is a government school teacher from Koriya district, Phatpani region.

According to him, students have finally started taking interest in education after he hit the streets with his TV. “It is a small effort from my side to educate children through movies. I teach various subjects to students of class 1 to 5. Students enjoy learning this way as it is fun. I feel very good when students wait for me enthusiastically,” he said.

Lodhi’s idea to lure kids into watching cartoon series or kids-friendly movies on TV and later, effortlessly make them study is actually working wonders. Among many, Dr Alok Shukla, principal secretary, School Education Department, Chhattisgarh, praised his efforts by saying, “I want to congratulate district administration for their efforts at ensuring seamless education in the district. A teacher known as “Cinema Wale Babu” has tied a TV on his motorbike and going to different localities to teach children using cartoons and music. Such innovations are rare to find in even big cities.”

In his own little way, Lodhi is helping the Chhattisgarh government realise its mission of educating every child stuck at home during the COVID-outbreak. One such govt. plan is an online portal called ‘Padhai Tuhar Duar,' which aims to teach children with the help of the community in their respective villages.
