An engineer-turned-math teacher has decided to go old-school to teach his students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. He is Muneer Alam from Malabagh, Kashmir, who’s taking open-air classes in a ground adjacent to a mosque in his area.
Earlier, Alam would take classes at his home abiding the social distancing norms but when the number of students increased in his class, he shifted to an under the open sky setting. Alam told Greater Kashmir, “It helped students to follow all the precautions without compromising on education.”
“I thought the open-air class is the best way and I made sure that my students are also taught about all the COVID protocols before attending class,” he added.
This act of pure love for his students and towards teaching is even more commendable because of Alam’s decision to not charge any fee from the student, the classes are free to attend.
Every day, at the break of dawn, the teacher and his students flood the ground, holding their foldable chairs and mats; and the class goes on for a few hours depending upon the weather.
Kashmir has been under lockdown since 2019 August, way before the global COVID crisis. The internet connectivity is either non-existent in some areas or too slow to be used for online classes. This decision of Alam is proving to help students not lag behind in their education. He is truly an example of kindness and selflessness.
