Maharashtra Govt Partners With Google to Roll-out Digi-Learning

Maharashtra has become the first Indian state to collaborate with Google India in the state-wide deployment of its ‘Google for Education’ technology.

As a part of the partnership, Google is providing students and teachers with a range of services, including G Suite for Education, Google Forms for conducting quizzes and tests, access to Google Meet video conferencing services and Google Classroom. These enable educators to create, review and organize assignments, as well as communicate directly with students. Google is handing out these services free of cost, equipping over 2.3 crore teachers and students in the state.

Sundar Pichai, Chief Executive of Google, revealed ‘Google for India Digitization Fund’ of $10 billion, through which the company will be making investments in India. He said, “We’ll do this through a mix of equity investments, partnerships, and operational, infrastructure and ecosystem investments.” “This is a reflection of our confidence in the future of India and its digital economy,” he added during Google For India 2020, the sixth edition of Google's India-centric event.

“G Suite for Education and Google Classroom will make remote learning easier will allow teachers to teach lessons in synchronous and asynchronous mode and stay connected with their students," said Bani Paintal Dhawan, Head of Education, India and South Asia, Google India.

In the conference, Google’s intention was unveiled that the main aim of the Digitisation Fund is to make all things digital for people in India, especially during the current COVID-19 crisis. Google also aims to work closely with PM Narendra Modi to take forward his vision of Digital India and help more and more people attain it.
