Since the schools are closed for more than six months now, the constant worry of the teachers and the parents is justified. Amidst this pandemic, Dumka’s Dumarthar village in Jharkhand has become an exemplary case of educators fighting for their students’ education.
This village has created small blackboards on all the walls of the houses so the children can continue to study while following the safety rules. The local teachers, who have named this initiative ‘Shiksha Aapke Dwaar,’ take rounds to conduct classes, thereby practising social distancing strictly.
“Education has impacted due to COVID-19. Students here did not have smartphones. We started ‘Shiksha Aapke Dwaar’ (education at your doorstep) to provide education to children while maintaining social distancing. More than 100 blackboards have been created on walls to teach students at their houses,” a teacher told ANI.
Dumka’s Deputy Commissioner, Rajeshwar B, appreciated the efforts this individual village is taking for its young learners. He feels that sharing this technique with other hamlets might do a lot of good for children who are unable to study online due to the lack of resources or internet connectivity.
Many villages in India have reported students lagging in their education during the COVID-outbreak. We hope to see similar innovative ideas emerging so the future of this country can be secured.
